Before the baby arrives:

There are a lot of things to think about when you are expecting a new baby.  Some tips here on how to prepare your home for the arrival of your little one:

  1. Baby proof your home. This means installing safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs, covering electrical outlets and putting up latches on cabinets and drawers.
  2. Create a safe sleep environment for your baby. This means investing in a quality crib or bassinet and making sure that their sleeping area is free from pillows, blankets and stuffed animals.
  3. Stock up on essentials. Diapers, wipes, formula, bottles and other baby gear can be expensive so its best to start stocking up before the baby arrives.
  4. Prepare your home for feedings. if you are breast-feeding, you will need a comfortable place to sit or recline while nursing.  If you are formula-feeding make sure you have all the supplies you need on hand (bottles, nipples etc).  You may also want to invest in a breast pump if you plan on pumping milk for storage.
  5. Create a space for baby’s belongings.  Whether it’s a nursery or just a corner of your bedroom, start setting aside space for all of baby things – be it clothes, diapers, toys etc.

Congratulations on your new baby! Preparing your home for a new little one can be an exciting, but daunting task.  By following the tips discussed  you should be ready to welcome your little bundle of joy.
